About Steve Olson

Hi, I’m Steve. I write stories that help people see wisdom in everyday life. I spent the first part of my career in radio, then more than two decades in education, teaching and mentoring in media, communication, and leadership. These chapters weren’t separate lives. They were one long apprenticeship in voice, story, and the way people grow when they feel seen.

Now, through books and occasional speaking, I focus on the same work I’ve always loved: helping people recognize their strengths, trust what they know in their bones, and take the next step with a steadier footing. Morrie, my rescue dog, still reminds me to slow down and notice what matters.

Where to begin

Leadership can be explored in many ways, not just through leadership books and essays. I’ve found that some of the clearest lessons arrive through children’s stories, poetry, and fiction, where ideas have room to breathe. I was often told I should “find a lane,” but I’ve come to believe that good writing transcends categories, and that real growth happens when you follow the work where it leads. If you start with Beyond Experience and later step into my Stones of the Crossing trilogy, you’ll notice they’re asking many of the same questions, just in different forms. With that in mind, here are four paths you can explore.

Leadership & Learning: practical wisdom, reflection, and leadership grounded in lived experience. (Explore Leadership & Learning →)

Stories for Younger Readers: gentle, curious stories for kids, often inspired by Morrie. (Visit the children’s stories →)
